We are thrilled to announce this NEW 10 day mountain biking adventure tour that immerses you in four different regions of Costa Rica – Cartago, Central Caribe, Arenal and Guanacaste with a backdrop of spectacular volcanoes. Every year guests exclaim how they’d love to have a longer biking adventure tour in Costa Rica – well here is that tour! The tour includes up to six days of easy-to-moderate mountain biking between small towns and villages and along rivers, volcanoes, and lakes interspersed with days of white water rafting on two of Costa Rica’s best rivers, and ends with well-deserved beach time and optional biking and surfing at the beach. You’ll start with mountain biking in Cartago and Central Caribe and then enjoy 2 days of white water rafting adventure on the famous Pacuare River combined with a fantastic overnight stay at Rios Tropicales Lodge, an award-winning ecolodge on the banks of the Pacuare river. Leaving Central Caribe and the Pacuare, you’ll head to Arenal’s famous volcano in La Fortuna, and enjoy cycling backroads in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano and beautiful Arenal Lake. From Arenal, you’ll bicycle to neighboring Guanacaste Province. Here you’ll get to experience Guanacaste’s high adventure rafting gem: the Cucaracho River, and 2 days to relax on the Northern Pacific beaches of Guanacaste, north of the province’s capital of Liberia. Picnic lunches are provided daily on the tour.

You’ll fly into Juan Santa Maria Airport in San Jose, where you be greeted by your Rios Tropicales bike tour leader and transported to your hotel in San Jose
Lodging at Bougainvillea Hotel
You’ll get an early start with van transportation to Irazu Volcano National Park in Turrialba, Central Caribe where you’ll pick up your mountain bike and gear. Today’s ride descends from Irazu Volcano through plantations of vegetables and pineapple, then follows winding dirt roads up into a cloud forest. You’ll take in spectacular views of the 2nd volcano of the tour – Turrialba Volcano. Turrialba Volcano is currently Costa Rica’s most active volcano. The day’s ride ends with a wonderful descent to Guayabo National Monument.

You’ll start today riding from our hotel after breakfast on a variety of paved and dirt roads, passing sugarcane fields in the countryside on your way to the famous Pacuare River. From there you’ll begin your overnight Pacuare River rafting trip – one of the most famous rivers in all of Costa Rica.
The Pacuare River Ecolodge 2-Day Trip gives you two incredible days of tropical white water rafting and a night at the Rios Tropicales Lodge. This exceptional adventure vacation experience combines rafting with a stay at our remote ecolodge, nestled in the rainforest on the banks of the Pacuare River. The Rios Tropicales Lodge, complete with hydro-powered electricity, is a model of ecotourism and deluxe accommodations.

Rated one of the top rivers in the world, you’ll experience the intimate nature of the rainforest as you raft right through it. After a wonderful night’s rest in the jungle at our ecolodge, you’ll raft the rest of the Pacuare river. The best rapids of the river are today, with Huacas Falls, Lower Huacas Falls, and Dos Montanas as some of the highlights of your day. At the take-out you’ll take a short bus shuttle to the Rios Tropicales Pacuare Operations Center for a hearty Costa Rican hot lunch and to change into street clothes for the bus transfer north to La Fortuna, home of the Arenal Volcano in the scenic Arenal region. Tonight’s lodging is another gracious Costa Rican hotel in La Fortuna.

Today is a gorgeous day of mountain biking along dirt roads next to Arenal Volcano, with views of Arenal Lake. You’ll pedal beside rivers and creeks, to the sounds of Costa Rica’s incredible birds and raucous howler monkeys. You’ll enjoy a tasty picnic lunch along the way and in the afternoon visit the hot springs at Guayabo that come out of nearby Miravalles Volcano, our 3rd volcano of the trip. Lodging tonight is in Guayabo.
Lodging at Termomanía or similar. (B,L,D)
Today’s riding starts in the colorful community of Guayabo and travels along dirt back roads between two more impressive volcanoes, Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja, into the midst of the rainforest. Your guide will point out birds and wildlife along the way. Sights of the Pacific Coast come into view as we head towards Guanacaste and the coast.

We’ll rest from biking today and pick up a full day of white water rafting on the exciting Cucaracho River. Set on the slopes of the amazing Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, flowing through its pristine National Park is Costa Rica’s new outstanding rafting adventure: the Cucaracho River. About 2 hours from the town of Liberia in the Guanacaste region, this thrilling river is surrounded by lush primary rainforest, cascade dripping walls and unique wildlife. The Cucaracho River gives you 12 miles of over 70 Class III-IV rapids plus two Class Vs!
This Cucaracho rafting adventure takes you through an amazing canyon surrounded by primary rainforest, and packed with inhabitants such as spider, howler and white-face monkeys, and exotic tropical birds such as the sun bitter, white hawks, herons, egrets and much more. The Cucaracho River starts after the confluence of four beautiful rivers that flow at the northeast base of the Rincon De La Vieja Volcano on the Caribbean slope. After rafting trip, you’ll transfer to Avellanas Beach in Guanacaste.

Today is a day of choices at the beach! Optional activities include surfing, bike riding along the beach and into town, or good old-fashioned beach relaxation with sunbathing, a good book, beach walks, and enjoying the company of new friends on the trip. Avellanas is known for great surfing, and local surf shops offer lessons daily.

More wonderful beach time on the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica! Your optional activities include biking to other area beaches, surfing, beach time, shopping in town, and soaking up Costa Rica’s pura vida culture.
