Day 1 Itinerary

Your guide will pick you up either in San Jose or Turrialba, and you’ll drive up to the summit of the Irazu Volcano to the national park. While staff prepare the bikes, your head guide will take you on a brief walking tour to see the main craters in the park. If it is a clear day you will be able to see both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, as well as the nearby Turrialba Volcano, which at 3,340 m (10, 958 ft) high is another of Costa Rica’s largest volcanoes.

Afterward, you’ll be fit to a mountain bike and receive thorough safety instruction. From the summit, we will descend on a secondary gravel road through the cloud forest and rainforest. We will pass fields of potatoes and other vegetables that are abundantly grown in this region, called the “food basket” of Costa Rica. Nearly 70% of our ride is downhill and then up and down rolling hills of medium intensity. Passing in front of the Turrialba Volcano, we will ride through the small village of La Central before a long stretch of downhill takes us into the town of Turrialba, where we’ll finish our tour.

Our professional guides are avid mountain bikers and are trained in wilderness education, safety, and first-aid. They offer a wealth of local knowledge about the area, wildlife, and Costa Rica.
